What is a PhotoFacial™ Treatment?
PhotoFacial™ is a series of gentle pulsed light treatments intended to improve the appearance of sun damaged and aged skin, as well as reduce redness and flushing; resulting in a more youthful appearing skin. As many as seventy-million Americans have undesirable redness and/or sun damaged skin on their face or entire body.
Sun exposure, alcohol, medications, spicy foods, stress, emotional tension, time and aging of the skin are common causes of Rosacea flare-ups. Repeated blushing or flushing of the skin is seen most commonly in fair skinned individuals.
What technology do you use for Photofacial™ treatment?
We use the state of the art MediLux system by Palomar. Patients who have had photofacial by other systems have noticed how convenient and comfortable the MediLux is.
Can I accomplish the same results with chemical peels, MicroDermabrasion (Power Peel™, Parisian Peels™)?
No, although PhotoFacial™ treatment can be used in conjunction with certain types of Peels and MicroDermabrasion.
How does the treatment work?
An intense light is emitted in a series of gentle pulses over the entire area. This special light, which is different from laser, emits energy over many wavelengths. This allows the light to penetrate through the skin where abnormally dilated vessels can be found. Lasers produce only a single wavelength of light and are limited in what they can treat.

Red blemishes from broken blood vessels and brown spots of pigment from sun damage respond to Intense Pulsed Light. The light is changed to heat energy as it reaches to the level of the collagen beneath the skin surface.
