What causes wrinkles?
Two types of wrinkles affect the skin, static and dynamic.
Dynamic wrinkles are the lines that form from smiling, squinting and frowning. Static wrinkles are the wrinkles that remain even when the face is relaxed. Examples of static wrinkles are the "crow's feet" lines around the eyes and the vertical lines above the lips.Why do we get wrinkles? As we age, the effects of the sun, wind, time and hormones are seen in the skin as the collagen beneath the skin wears out. Surface irregularities such as brown skin discolorations also occur.

What are the options?
Treatment options include dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser skin resurfacing. In each of these treatments, layers of skin are removed followed by the body restoring a softer, smoother, more youthful appearing skin.
The Erbium laser is our preferred laser for resurfacing. This laser produces less heat and is considerably gentler to the skin then other resurfacing lasers. Treatment with the Erbium laser stimulates the production of collagen which results in a tightening and smoothing of the skin.
Where is the laser treatment performed?
The laser treatment is performed in the office operating suite under local anesthesia.

What is the recovery like?
Most people are able to return to their normal activities in about 1 week. During this period, topical ointments are applied to allow the skin to heal as soon as possible. Make-up can usually be worn in 1 week.
