The Lunchtime Peel

What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion types is a technique that uses fine mineral crystals that look like sugar to improve the appearance of the skin. A stream of air blows the crystals across the surface of the skin. As these crystals are blown across the skin, they gently exfoliate the outer layers of skin. These crystals are vacuumed across the skin to remove the dead and damaged skin cells and to stimulate the collagen beneath the surface of the skin.

Before After

This patient with brownish discoloration caused by sun exposure improved her complexion after 6 treatments and now has smoother and more even toned skin.

This process results in a firmer, more youthful looking skin over time. This procedure is used to improve many different types of skin problems as well as to maintain a healthful appearance. The procedure essentially buffs the skin of fine lines and discoloration while refining texture and hue. This gentle technique, applied by a skilled specialist, has been described as "sandblasting with velvet" because it softly produces a remarkable difference in the skin's appearance, yet is safe, pain-free and non-invasive. After just one treatment, clients report their skin tone and texture are improved; wrinkles are less apparent; and even scarring is less noticeable.

How many treatments do I need?
A series of between six and nine treatments is usually performed. Following a treatment, patients either look as if nothing has occurred or they may look as if they were in the sun. Clients are advised to come in every 10 days to 2 weeks and can have up to 15 treatments if necessary in this time period. Beyond the completion of a treatment course, monthly treatments are recommended to maintain best results. Repeated treatments have yielded excellent results for more extensive problems like scar revision (acne, chicken pox, surgery scars) as well as deep discoloration and melasma.
