When summer is over, it is time to think about getting your skin back into shape. Sunlight, saltwater, chlorinated water and wind can leave your skin uneven and discolored. We have developed a special science based system of helping people restore and improve their skin after summer. Depending on your skin condition we will provide you with skin care counseling that best suits your situation. So what exactly does the sun do to the skin? The sun generates UV or ultraviolet light which generates oxygen-free radicals. These oxygen-free radicals destroy the structure of the skin. The results of this assault include wrinkles (photoaging), solar lentigines (brown spots), actinic keratosis and skin cancer. Unfortunately most suncscreens don’t completely protect skin from UV rays (particularly UVA). Other causes of oxygen-free radicals are air pollution and tobacco smoke. The body tries to protect itself from these damaging free radicals by using antioxidants. These antioxidants become depleted with this assault and get even further depleted by alcohol, analgesics, antidepressants, anticoagulants and steroids.
The Plan
The plan is to diagnose, treat and maintain. Restoring your skin to better health usually involves a treatment or procedures in the office followed by maintenance skin care by you daily.
Your Possible Options
Medically Guided Facials – With proper diagnosis, medically guided facials can renew your skin in ways you simply can’t do on your own. These facials which take on average about ½ hour to perform will improve your skin’s circulation, decrease fluid retention, and through the application of antioxidants give your skin better protection from free-radical damage.
Deep Microdermabrasion – We have extensive experience with deep microdermabrasion which is usually limited to be done by physicians using one of the most powerful technologies available. Not only does this process remove old dead skin but it also unclogs pores that can be blocked with oil and makeup.
Peels – When skin is uneven in color, tone and texture, a chemical peel can be just the right step. We offer light glycolic (fruit acid) peels which have no down time as well as deeper peels such as the Obagi Blue Peel which can take 7-10 days to heal.
Laser skin resurfacing – For fine lines and discoloration (even dark circles under the eyes), the Erbium laser has been exceptionally beneficial to our patients. Healing time is usually 7 days.
Maintain and Protect
Custom designing of a skin care system at home is the final part of the solution. Depending on your age, skin type, sex, and skin condition, we have a group of skin care products with actual scientific effect. These products cannot be sold at stores. You are not committed to having to use all the products we recommend and we adjust the regimen to include current products you use as well as prescription products that you may be able to obtain through your medical benefits.
